Donations
Dane County K9, Inc. has been fortunate to have the support of many businesses, individuals, and foundations. The Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit is not fully funded by public funds (tax dollars). Prior to the founding of Dane County K9, Inc., the K9 handlers spent thousands of dollars out of their own pocket to purchase and maintain their K9 partner’s. Annually, the K9 Unit needs financial assistance for advanced training and to purchase updated equipment. Approximately every eighteen months, the K9 Unit needs to replace one of the K9’s. A new K9 generally costs between $8,000 and $12,000. If we need to replace a K9 handler that the same time, the basic training for a new handler can add another $5,000 to $7,000 to this cost. Additional questions can be directed to the Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit Supervisor and Treasurer of the Board, Sgt. Matt Alsaker: alsaker.richard@co.dane.wi.us
